7. Map of the Island of St. Domingo for William Faden

7. Title: Isle of St Domingo or Hispaniola
Date: 1796.
Size: 720 x 440 mm

Signature(s): Engraved by John Cooke, Hendon.
Location(s): BL[1], Durham.

Comments: The publisher was William Faden, junior and this was probably sold separately as a broadsheet publication. The note below the title states The Spanish part of the Island is laid down according to the Survey made in 1776 by Don Joseph Solano.

This map has been seen tipped in to copies of An historical survey of the French colony in the island of St. Domingo written by Bryan Edwards (see entry 4) and printed in London for John Stockdale in 1797.[2] However, this was not the original issue and other examples have a copy of this map with simpler title, Map of St Domingo. This was the subject of a court hearing.[3]

7.2 Imprint(s): As state 1 but date amended to Octr 1st 1795.
Signature(s): none.
Location(s): CUL[4].
