3. Two maps for Select Views in Mysore

3a. Title: Plan of the Position of the Confederate Armies under the Direction of Earl Cornwallis before Seringapatam, from the 5th to the 24th February, 1792 when the Cessation of hostilities took place including the Position of Tippoo Sultan's Army previous to the Action of the Night of the 6th and the Subsequent Operations of the Siege.  (Aa). 
Size: 671 x 602 mm. SCALE OF YARDS 3000 YARDS = 145 mm (under title).
Signature: Engraved by J. Cooke Mill Hill, Middx.
Imprint: Published by R Bowyer; and W Sharp, Madraßs, Feby 1. 1794.

 


3b. Plan of Bangalore with the Attacks taken by the English Army under the command of the Rt Honble Earl Cornwallis, KG &c &c &c, March 22nd 1791. 
Size: 660 x 449 mm. Scale of Yards ¾ Inch to 100 Yards 1000 Yards = 90 mm.
Signature: Engrav’d by J. Cooke Mill Hill, Middx.
Imprint: Published by R Bowyer; and W Sharp, Madraßs, Feby 1. 1794.

 Comments: One of two maps found in Select Views in Mysore, the Country of the Tippoo Sultan; from Drawings Taken on the Spot By Mr Home.[1] This was published in London by R. Bowyer and by W Sharp in Madras (Chennai), 1794. This work also has a Plan of Ootradroog, unsigned, and Plan of the Carnatic and Mysore, dated June 5th 1791 and signed by Lodge as engraver, M Armstrong artist.

The work was republished in 1812 and printed by R Butters but not with all the maps[2].

The BL has original wash drawing of 3a at WD 3775(27) and pen and ink watercolour of 3b by Rob. Home at WD 3775(26): India Office. The two plans are currently (2023) on-line at Rare Book Society of India and at Deeply Thinking if BL site does not work.
